What does softball mean to me




















I knew I wasn 't ready for the world series. It was the week before we vs Franklin in our championship game and this was actually my first time playing for an actual championship and they had so many different rules then city volleyball it was a bit hard to learn and remember all the rules but I got it down pretty well after a few games and practices.

We actually won all of our games except 3 to make it to the championship game. I loved my teammates, they all worked really hard to call the ball and help each other out through stuff all of our practices went well and everything but it kinda sucked because even before the championship, we lost against Franklin twice so we were pretty nervous to hear that they won and we were going to be versing them.

Last year I tried out for baseball. I thought that it was all a joke to mess with me because one of the people who made it told me the website to go to to find the list. I learned that was the real list. My dad inspired me to play baseball because he said with the right training you can become a great baseball player. My dad showed me how to pitching,batting,fielding,and catching he told me if you put all your power into the ball and explode on the ball!

But did that stop him he hit more homeruns than most of the guys there! That inspired me a lot so I stop being lazy and started asking my dad to play baseball with me,instaed of him asking me. I take off, sprinting as fast as I can to get to 2nd base. I touched first and then landed safely on second base, smiling ear to ear and listening to my teammates and fans go wild because we might actually have a chance to win this game.

Before I tell you if we win or lose, let me tell you about how my day started. The sun's beating down on me and sweats dripping down my face. I set up for a throw down at second, the pitcher starts her wind up and I take two steps closer to second. Watching these kids play and learn the fundamental skills of softball was one of the best experiences by far.

I was able to build their self-esteem and softball skills, which would advance them no matter what path they took. These kids looked at me as a role model and were always quick to ask questions on how they could better their skills. I was so proud that my sister was able to share the same love of softball as I did. I was also happy that I was able to help her in her games to better her for a good future.

Who knows maybe in 3 years she will also play for the Coral Glades Jaguars. Furthermore, the skills and lessons I have obtained from playing softball are ones that I will carry with me throughout my entire life. Teamwork is a requirement in most career paths and softball has taught me how to work with others and be a player on the team.

The ability to lead this year as captain is another trait that will assist me no matter where my future endeavors take me. This leadership role has shown me that working with others and helping them achieve their goals is very rewarding and something I may look to do as I pursue my college education.

The thought of this being my senior year, my final season as a high school player, saddens me. On the field you play hard you have fun, you can vent any frustration by smacking the ball clear to the outfield.

The adrenaline you get when you throw someone out at first or you catch a fly ball, maybe even stopping that runner from scoring at home plate, is a feeling like any other.

The field is a place where I can be with my second family. Somewhere I can show people what I can do and who I am. I play because it is my source of enjoyment. It is my home away from home. I plan on playing in college because lets face it where would I be without the game of softball. This essay was written by a fellow student.
